A rate limit bounds how many operations a caller may perform in a time interval. Values shown in the worked visual are illustrative unless the labels state otherwise.

How it works

Limits protect capacity and distribute access among clients. Responses should communicate remaining quota and retry timing.

A concrete example

Illustrative: allow 60 requests per minute and return 429 on request 61.

Do not confuse it with Concurrency limit

a rate limit counts operations over time; a concurrency limit bounds simultaneous work.
