Grounding

Grounding ties a generated claim to supplied evidence or an authoritative source. Values shown in the worked visual are illustrative unless the labels state otherwise.

How it works

A grounded response should remain within what the evidence supports and make provenance inspectable. Retrieval alone does not guarantee grounding.

A concrete example

Illustrative: 6 factual claims are checked and 5 are supported by cited passages.

Do not confuse it with Citation

a citation points to a source; grounding requires the claim to be supported by it.
