Canary deployment

A canary deployment sends a small share of production traffic to a new version before wider rollout. Values shown in the worked visual are illustrative unless the labels state otherwise.

How it works

The limited exposure bounds damage while live metrics are compared. Automated rollback should use predefined safety and quality thresholds.

A concrete example

Illustrative: route 5% of requests to version B for 30 minutes, then expand to 25% if error rate stays below 1%.

Do not confuse it with A/B test

a canary primarily manages release risk; an A/B test estimates a product effect.
